We, the Mena lab, are committed to mitigate the racial disparity that is prevalent in STEM fields

We are an ever-evolving team of scientists from international backgrounds. We understand that it is not enough to be diverse and inclusive, but that we must work to be actively anti-racist in our pursuit of science. We view ourselves not only as academics, but as members of the community of Newark, where we work.

Our lab aspires to provide a safe-space for the career advancement of scientists from any background.

When Black, Hispanic or Indigenous scientists & trainees interact with our lab, we hope to do everything we can to center and forward their career goals and support our trainees in a way that forwards the plight of underrepresented cultures in science. When these communities succeed, we all succeed.

We do not accept racial tokenization.

We do not accept racist stereotypes.

We do not accept racist microaggresions.

And of course, we will never accept overt racism in our workplace.

We are listening and we are growing.
